Exact anagram vs sub-anagram
An exact anagram rearranges every letter: LISTEN → SILENT. A sub-anagram uses only some of the letters — the words hiding inside. Most puzzles that say "anagram" actually want sub-anagrams too, which is why this solver gives you both: the exact matches up top, the buried treasure below, longest first.
Under the hood, exact anagrams are found with a signature index: every dictionary word is stored under its alphabetically-sorted letters, so LISTEN, SILENT and ENLIST all live at the key eilnst and lookup is instant, even across 320,000 words. It's a beautiful little algorithm — and it runs entirely in your browser.
Questions people actually ask
What is an anagram?
A word or phrase formed by rearranging all the letters of another: SILENT is an anagram of LISTEN. If only some letters are used, it's a sub-anagram — this tool finds both.
How does the anagram solver work so fast?
Every dictionary word is indexed by its sorted letters, so all exact anagrams of your input share one lookup key. Finding them is a single map lookup, not a search.
Does it solve multi-word anagrams?
Not yet — it finds single-word anagrams and every shorter word inside your letters. Multi-word solving is on the roadmap.
Can I use it for crossword and puzzle solving?
Absolutely — enter the jumbled letters and scan the results by length. For pattern-based clues with known letter positions, the Wordle solver's approach works better for 5-letter answers.
